BIOGRAPHY

Rita Vindedzis came to realize her passion for art early in life. The daughter of professional artists, Rita's earliest influences began in childhood as she watched both her mother and father bring their artistic vision to life.

Rita began to pursue her artistic abilities through formal studies at the Ontario College of Art and Design, however the true nature of her inimitable style always came naturally. Rita's paintings transport the viewer to a softer place where the hard edges of the world have been removed, replaced by peace and tranquillity.

Her artwork has appeared in Canadian House and Home Magazine, Style at Home Magazine and on national television programs including Cityline, Design Inc., Sarah's House, Divine Design and Designer Guys. Rita is presently engaged in a wide range of solo and group gallery exhibits and her work hangs in numerous private and corporate collections.

STATEMENT

"‘Metamorphosis’, any complete change in appearance, character, circumstances etc; a form resulting from any such change... My newest series of works is a total departure from my landscape painting of the past five years. Inspired by the natural world, these paintings are an abstracted impression of the wonder of nature and the simple beauty of the everyday... finding the sacred in the ordinary, the pattern of clouds in the sky, tree bark, the veins in a single leaf or the complex patterns in a pile of leaves; sunlight glistening on water... Using a variety of mixed media has allowed me to paint with a greater sense of freedom, with almost childlike abandon. Collage elements, ephemera, hand cut stencils and hand made stamps have been used. Also incorporated into the paintings are my own digital photography in the form of photo copies (collaged) and gel transfers. This metamorphosis has taken place over many months and I feel that I've shed layers of myself in the process. In pushing my boundaries a new creative spirit has been unleashed, ready to soar."

THE LANDSCAPES

Rita paints in her studio using photographs taken during family trips, inspirational drives and walks through the countryside. Some are created purely from memory. Big skies and open fields, a large expanse of beach, meandering streams and grazing sheep are some of her favourite themes. Each painting is a soft-focus moment in time.
