She also holds a BA with honors degree in Mass Communications from Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. Currently Marjolyn works from her studio in the Distillery District in Toronto and travels through the US exhibiting in top art fairs across the country. She is represented by several galleries in Toronto and is in several corporate collections in North America.
These paintings are from memory, imagination and suspended moments of my daily life. Like windows in time each image attempts to search for the emotion associated with a particular time and place.
So often a person has an image, a spark of a memory that is saturated with emotion. Many times there is an ambiguity to this image; a vagueness yet a crystal clear moment. Through the use of stark and subdued light my work attempts to draw the viewer into the moment of the narrative. The viewer is drawn into the subject and explores how the parts of the image relate to each other.
Like memories, each painting is layered with several images. The process lends itself to creating a memory. The surface reveals a thickness of texture through the use of tissue paper and modeling paste. The viewer becomes involved in the discovery of the moment captured by the painting.
The colors are warm and inviting. Not bright and disturbing. This allows for an invitation for the viewer to be reminiscent about a particular time and place.
These works exist and their goal is to mark a moment of time. Through the use of texture, color, and contrasts of light, I want to stop the viewer in their tracks and register the narrative.
