Jason Van Horne was born in London, Ontario and graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design in 2002, majoring Sculpture and Installation. Jason's work has been exhibited at the Katherine Mulherin Gallery, Mercer Union and the Art Gallery of Ontario
Scale models are used to create these fictional but familiar scenarios, using both found and scavenged material such as discarded cardboard and Styrofoam as well as atchitectural and railroad modelling accessories. Narrative and visual cues come as much from Hollywood's obsession with end-of-the-world scenario as it does from the constant threat of terrorist activity put forth by the nightly news. For this exhibition something has happened to the cities of the world, turning them into uninhabitable wastelands. Those who have survived the urban decay have found refuge outside of the city limits, but are they really safe in the sleepy suburbs?
