ABOUT THE ARTIST

Biography: A native of Costa Rica, Francisco developed his artistic skills through university courses, workshops and self-teaching. His energy drives him to continue growing artistically as he creates figurative and abstract work in a wide range of media, including sculptures in stone, ceramic, bronze, resin and wood, and paintings in acrylic, watercolor and oil. His works are found in private collections in Canada, Costa Rica, the United States, Europe and Argentina, and his monumental sculptures are installed as public art in Costa Rica and Chile.

Artist's Statement: "This exhibition is being held in support of Toronto Art Visions community arts organization, which was established to promote art and artistry in the Greater Toronto Area. It has been a privilege for me to create original sculpture using white Carrara marble recycled from the façade of First Canadian Place in downtown Toronto. I am deeply grateful to Brookfield Properties, Clifford Restoration and Leonardo Galleries for their generous support. As an artist, I constantly seek to challenge myself with new subjects, techniques and ideas. Experimenting with colour, using marble as my canvas – inspired me to explore the power of colour and to create the Kaleidoscope series of sculptures and paintings for this exhibition."
